The first 20 seconds of an AI call: what to say and what to skip

How to open an AI sales or service call so people stay on the line: disclose, say why you are calling, ask permission, then ask one easy question.

Why the opening matters

People decide within a few seconds whether a call is worth their time. On an AI call the opening also has to be honest about who is calling. A clear opening builds trust; a vague one gets hung up on.

Four parts of a good opening

  1. Say who you are and that it is an AI assistant.
  2. Say which business you represent and why you are calling (their enquiry, their appointment).
  3. Ask if now is a good time.
  4. Ask one easy first question.

What to skip

  • Long company introductions.
  • Reading out a list of offers before the person has said anything.
  • Pretending to be human.

Open in their language

Start in the language the lead used when they enquired, and offer to switch. Konvrs lets you set the language per agent; see languages.
